How SEO Internet Marketing Threatens Executives.
All due respect to business owners and executives out there, but SEO and Internet marketing in general is a real threat to some of you. And it’s understandable.
It’s asking you to adapt and change your business to conform to new standards and practices. It’s asking you to give up total control of your business’ website, the one you poured your heart and soul into. It’s asking you to step down as the CEO of all things Web and trust someone else with the success of your site.
It’s not easy. But, it’s time.
So, let’s take a look at the beginning stages of letting go and giving in to the online marketing strategy.
Giving up Control and Trusting the Expert
“Giving up control” maybe isn’t the best way to put it. As an owner or executive of a company, you’re still going to be an active part in the online marketing decision-making process. Internet marketing supports business goals; it doesn’t work against them. And the fate of your Internet marketing success essentially lies in your hands when you’re the person giving the blessing.
What’s needed is a willingness to trust the right marketing expert with your site. Over the years, you’ve assembled a team of people for your business that all have special skills and talents. You oversee your team, but you also trust that they know what they’re doing. This is how you need to look at your SEO/Web marketing professional or agency.
While many business owners or marketing execs feel comfortable making important decisions daily based on years of experience, the Internet marketing strategy can sometimes pose a problem.
Since it’s a newer discipline, many executives and business owners do not understand the intricacies of it, and this confuses some of them and threatens their ability to make sound decisions.
Depending on the industry, old school marketing has worked just fine until now for many businesses. They’ve built their companies on it, they understand it. Now this “SEO” and “PPC” and “conversions” and “analytics” thing — and a whole mess of other online marketing concepts — are flying at them at lightning speed, and it’s overwhelming.
What’s interesting is that most companies with bigger operations have some sort of dedicated IT department, team or person. While the business owner may not know a thing about information systems, IT is usually trusted to carry out daily tasks without much question.
But when it comes to the Internet marketer and online marketing strategy, it’s often looked at with caution and sometimes doubt. I can think of two reasons off the top of my head:
1.It’s a newer discipline, and validating credentials is not as easy as knowing someone graduated from a four-year university with a degree in computer science, for example. Business owners may not trust Internet marketers right away to be making the best decisions for their site. First, there’s nothing wrong with questioning credentials. Choosing an in-house Internet marketer or agency is a very important step in the process. But, once the right one is chosen, it’s time to trust their expertise.
2.The online marketing strategy is (in the eyes of many) messing with years of proven marketing tactics and a website that has likely been built with lots of blood, sweat and tears. Most businesses have built their websites based on emotion. The online marketer builds strategies for websites with things like analytics, best practices, formulas and more. This can completely crush the emotional connection a business owner or exec has with the websites they’ve built. This can be one of the hardest obstacles to hurdle over.
Being Receptive to Understanding the Process
Guess what? When you take the time to learn and understand the process, you’re actually putting more control back into your hands to make educated decisions. By trusting the expert, this leads to a partnership by where the business owner or exec can be an active part in the process.
Big decisions still need to be made, and as the person in charge, it’s your decision to say “yes” or “no.” But, knowing why you are saying yes or no is the key.
A good Internet marketer or agency will take the time to explain the how and why of the strategy, will have data to back it up and will be able to answer all your questions with reasonable responses. Having an Internet marketer that listens and addresses questions and concerns is very important.
And it’s your duty as the decision maker to ask these questions, to understand the process, so three months down the line, you don’t have a conniption when you don’t know what’s happening with the site.
Like when you don’t know why you’re not seeing the results you expected, or you don’t understand why the strategy is going in the direction it is.
Or maybe you or someone else in the organization has an idea to make changes to the site based on business decisions that could potentially wreak havoc on SEO efforts.
Understanding the process positions business owners well, so every decision made keeps your online marketing efforts in mind. It also helps to translate your vision into the strategy.
Sending the Command for Company-wide Buy-In
The next point applies more to midsize and large companies with several divisions or brands to manage, but can also apply to teams within small businesses. The primary decision maker or head of the company serves as the commander in chief, yet you have a handful of brands or sectors of the business all with their own hierarchal structures and all vying for their own successes.
A large-scale Internet marketing strategy will not work without a commander in chief who has succumbed to trusting the expert and understanding the process. Then, there needs to be an understanding that in order for online marketing to work, all hands need to be on deck.
What that means is that from the top down, there needs to be an organization-wide commitment to the plan.
This poses more problems, because now you have more decision-makers that all have to go through the process of giving up absolute control, trusting the expert and understanding the process.
But it has to be done, because each brand, division or team knows their sectors best. And translating what their side of the business needs into an online marketing strategy is an important part of making it successful.
Yes, the Internet marketer knows how to approach it on a tactical level, but the driver is business goals. So, it’s a symbiotic relationship between the online marketer and business leader. And this relationship cannot be successful until it has the blessing of the commander in chief.
In-house SEO takes commitment, willingness and an open mind. Sometimes it’s a constant battle to prove the strategy and advantages. The good news is that Internet marketers are passionate enough to continue to fight the good fight, and prove that online marketing is an invaluable part of business.

Yellow Pages Are Declining (Bill Gates knows about it..YP Publishers do too..so should you)
Yellow Pages are on their last breath...so what do they do? Bill Gates even knows this. You should too...
Our San Antonio SEO and web design clients have seen an increased surge in holiday spending and stocking stuffer investments in the past few weeks. Why? Well, remember that the holidays are when potential buyers are seeking active sellers! And mind you, they are NOT wasting their time looking to get papercuts from the phonebooks (aka : paperweights, doorstoppers, etc), but rather they are looking online at websites, product lists and so forth. After all, when you shop for a car, you ALWAYS have to test drive it (unless you're a billionaire) which in that case, you care more about airplanes and jets, but I digress. I like to try on a watch before I buy it. Do you like to as well?
How do YOU get in front of your clients? Are you still throwing away money on the "traditional" media like phonebooks (bleh, save the trees already!)? On our staff is an ex-Yellow Page rep and he worked for a fast-paced large New York operation as well as a slow yellow page company from Pittsburg, Kansas. The large corporation literally plowed through customer's investments and increased most monthly payments from $1500/month to $1900/month just to be in the Yellow Pages and (ahem...) websites created through these scam artists.
Boy, if I had a dollar for every time a local San Antonio web client told me how often they were just thrown online with a low-grade template with only two linking domains and no back-end ability to edit their sites, I'd be well, at least $1200 richer! LOL
If you advertise in the Yellow Pages, just STOP! Every year, they increase the cost and say, "Oh well, you're still getting a discount!". While there may be some partial truth to the statement, most of the "value-added" incentives like a discounted website are exactly that - a load of BS. If those Yellow Page companies would only see that they're harming their "clients'" well-being and view them as a colleague rather than a cash cow, maybe, JUST MAYBE, there may be a credible consultant title behind them. But NO. Once a year, 10% more off about and $8000 ad, but where's the tracking? How many people looked at it? How did they find it? What was the call to action? Is it the phone book that is truly making you more money than spending it? Have you sat down and reviewed your media mix?
Now, don't get me wrong, there is a niche for those that advertise, but the law of diminishing returns applies to yellow page advertising. Print is dead (well, barely breathing) and they're all trying to get digital, but they missed the boat. After all, you wouldn't go to a restaurant to get your dog groomed, right? Conversely, would you go get lunch at a pet groomer salon? I didn't think so.
Are you ready to see how, where and when searchers found you online instead of hoping someone has a phonebook next to them, dusting it off, and thumbing through all those wasted trees?
If so, give your local San Antonio Web Design and Texas SEO firm a call. We'll take the time to review your media mix and help you save some money while making more since 83% of Americans have a smartphone. San Antonio SEO or SEM Tips & Advice
When first tasked with the issue of San Antonio SEO, it is imperative to first do some research on how and why you are not being found online. The easiest and most cost-effective manner in which to decide on how and where to move forward is to review your own pages and see if there is anything NOT relevant in your title tags.
Title tags are what search engines, like Google, Bing and Yahoo look for and give the highest weight (well, generally) to so it is quite relevant to ensure that you review those first.
Afterwards, you may want to check a few of your competitors to see what they MAY be doing right and without a doubt, you ought to notice a variety of distinct differences.
Some freelance web designers (aka : weekend warriors) can design a 5 page pre-populated website in a matter of a few days. It is true that the sooner the better; however, this may (and most probably always does) cost more in the future due to incomplete website architecture.
As a professional San Antonio Web Designer , here at New Global Ventures, we strive to consult with business owners that need to be found online and most of the time, the simplest of issues can be corrected and fixed upon the search engines' next indexing round.
However, that is NOT enough! Constant monitoring, updating, checking for broken links, adding content and so much more goes beyond true "Search Engine Optimization".
Here in San Antonio Texas, sometimes it may be best to geo-target for local business. National clients tend to have the most content and that will lead to better long-tail and unexpected keyword rankings (which are GREAT since you may have never truly counted on those impressions)!
You owe it to yourself as well as the sweat equity you have already invested to keep your business running strong and being found online.
As a San Antonio SEO, if you are looking for a few ideas or just need to be pointed in the right direction for local SEO or national SEM marketing campaigns, feel free to call us at 877-747-4669 for a free SEO or web design consultation. Local San Antonians are encouraged to visit us at 242 W. Sunset Rd, Suite #101 here in San Antonio, Texas.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Texas
Now, we can sit here all day talking about SEO this and SEO that; however, DATA ACQUISITION is crucial to ensuring your clients' best success.
As an SEO padawan, it has come to my attention during brainstorming sessions for marketing tactics, there are plenty of great ideas, but unfortunately keeping track of the success of such small seeds of genius marketing are forgotten a few weeks down the road. Why? Well, when the SE's all index our wonderfully fresh and new content for our clients' websites, at times the SEO's move on to the next phase.
Have you ever forgotten to ask for a receipt at a restaurant? How did you feel? Well, one may argue that the issue is trivial, but the same basic concept applies to search engine optimization!
Why you may ask?
SIMPLE : No receipt = No reminder of what transpired (we all forget sometimes, right?)
The fact of the matter, and yes, I know I'm brief in this blog for today, is that we can't lose focus of the foundation on which we've started our marketing campaign for our clients. Whether we're optimizing a website for a small 5 page landscaper all the way through a million page widget ecommerce website, keeping tabs and building on it are key!
So, let's all do what's best and constantly remind our clients of the importance of their input as we remember to troubleshoot, look back, reflect and remember which foundation we started with...hopefully something dense and able to support the web weight as traffic increases!
CHEERS!
=D
P.S. Next post will deal with MOBILE WEB APPS...so stay tuned!
